NAD+

Harvard scientists have coined Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+) the "miracle molecule" and for good reason. NAD is a naturally occurring coenzyme of niacin that helps cells in our bodies produce energy. It does so by converting the energy we get from food into cellular energy. NAD+ acts as an important cofactor and substrate for a multitude of biological processes including energy production, DNA repair, gene expression, calcium-dependent secondary messenger signaling and immunoregulatory roles. NAD+ is utilized to make ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate- how the human body creates energy) in our mitochondria (the "powerhouse" organelle). Depletion and impairment of NAD+ are pivotal events to the common neurodegenerative diseases of Alzheimer's Disease (AD), Parkinson's Disease (PD), Huntington's Disease (HD), and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). More evidence of linkages between NAD+ depletion/supplementation and Neurological Disorders.

NAD+ naturally decreases as we age and many environmental factors can speed up that natural decline. For example, as a person uses alcohol or drugs, their natural amount of NAD+ becomes more depleted. This then makes it even more difficult to convert energy that is broken down from food into cellular energy. It is even speculated that people who naturally produce less NAD+ are more likely to develop an addiction and potentially a co-occurring disorder. Other reasons the body’s natural reserve of NAD+ would be depleted are:

  • Post-traumatic stress

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE)

  • Alzheimer’s

  • Parkinson’s

  • ALS

  • Huntington's

  • Neurodegenerative diseases

  • Aging

While NAD+ supplementation through IV therapy yields the best and fastest results, you can also implement these lifestyle changes to help slow the natural decline of NAD+:

  • Exercise - daily exercise produces more NAD+ for energy and your body can respond by producing more NAD+.

  • Fasting - this eating method puts the body in a temporary state of shock which can help slow the depletion of NAD+.

  • Hot Exposure - saunas or steam rooms cause your body to use more energy to cool down naturally increasing the bodies NAD+ production.

  • Consuming more Vitamin B foods - avocados, steamed fish and raw milk may help NAD+ levels.

NAD+ is essential to supplement through IV therapy as the human body only has a certain amount in its lifetime and it depletes as we age. NAD+ repletion extends healthspan and / or lifespan and mitigates several conditions, such as premature aging diseases and neurodegenerative diseases. Recent studies have shown that enhancing NAD+ levels can profoundly reduce oxidative cell damage in catabolic tissue, including the brain. Clinical findings suggest that NAD+ replenishment has great potential as a therapeutic target for aging and age-predisposed diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease. IV Supplementation can also boost your mental clarity and mood, improve energy and overall health of your body, increase metabolism and immune support, decrease inflammation and cellular aging, assist in athletic performance, recovery and restful sleep.
